Every now and then TV shows are lumped together to make up one panel at New York Comic Con. In my experience though, they’ve been for shows airing on the same channel. Usually one new show is like the “opening act” for a more established show that accounts for the majority of fans in attendance at the panel. This was not one of those panels.
At NYCC this year, the CW’s post-post-post-apocalyptic series was part of the “WBTV Panel Block: Blindspot, Manifest, and The 100”. Or speed dating for TV shows as I like to think of it since they would bring out one show, roll some video, and then chat with the cast / creators for a few mins before moving onto the next show. The entire time I sat in that room I really wondered how many people in the audience were actually fans of all three.
I came across this panel because of NBC’s Blindspot, a show I’ve watched since the beginning but got really into last year. Manifest was new, so whatever, but then I saw The 100 and was like “oh snap”. It’s a show that multiple people have told me I need to watch and as a result it’s been in my Netflix queue for the last few years. So I did the only logical thing which was to binge watch all 5 seasons, or 72 episodes, in 12 days in order to be all caught up before the day of the panel.
Needless to say, it’s my new favorite TV obsession and I was so happy to be able to fully enjoy the The 100’s NYCC debut. No video teaser of any kind, but there we were among the first to see pictures from the new season, plus TVLine.com’s Andy Swift was on hand to moderate a conversation and Q&A with the show’s creator Jason Rothenberg and stars Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley. Here’s what we learned about last season’s finale and the upcoming sixth season, which will debut mid-season on The CW:
- Everyone on the panel stated that there were no dry eyes on set when the filmed the final scenes of the fifth season finale, you know the Monty and Harper’s goodbye. In fact, Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley joked that they had competing “tear beards”.
- The new world is going to be surprising, beautiful,and different. Jason Rothenberg started to tease something about culture, but didn’t go on. I have to wonder if this planet will be home to a more developed society… He did however confirm that it has two stars, or suns, so the environment will indeed have an impact our characters. There are eclipses…
- While the world is new for everyone aboard the Eligius IV, Jordan is seeing a world for the first time. Literally everything is new for him.
- Regarding the Blake siblings: Even though the remaining survivors have been asleep for over 100 years, everything will feel as if they just happened yesterday for these characters so everything is still really raw. Octavia and Bellamy have a long journey to repair their relationship.
- Along the same lines, Abby is still on a road to recovery. However, her and Clarke will have an easier time seeing eye-to-eye now that Clarke has Madi.
- When asked if Shawn Mendes was still alive in the world of The 100, the group joked that he was in deep deep cryo sleep.
- Bob teased that there will be new pairings.
- Eliza and Bob also promised that there would finally be some conversations about things that have gone unresolved. (There was a lot of cheering in the audience for this one.)
- Jason revealed that Bob will be directing an episode in the fifth season.
- He also mentioned that Bob has a must-see performance in the second episode to keep an eye out for and both Jason and Eliza shared that there was upcoming things for Clarke that scared Eliza from an actor / performer standpoint.
- The characters will get new outfits!
Is it mid-season yet? I cannot wait.
