5 Reasons Blindspot’s Final Season is Going to be Great

Blindspot Final Season

Blindspot Final Season

Blindspot’s fifth and final season has arrived and while I’ll be sad to say goodbye, I think we’re in for a real treat! And not just because last season’s finale would have been a cruel cliffhanger to leave fans with, but because there’s something special about being able to witness a “victory lap.” Especially when said victory lap is sure to include all the explosions and craziness that we’ve come to expect from this show, and then some.

Still need more convincing? Here’s five specific reasons I’ve got high hopes for Blindspot’s swan song.

1.) Shortened Episode Order

The show’s first four seasons were slave to the standard broadcast 22-episode order. Actually, it’s first season had 23 episodes. But the final season is a short and sweet 11 episodes, which will bring Blindspot’s grand total to the 100 episode mark! Reaching that milestone is great, but I can’t lie, I’m jazzed the show doesn’t have to stretch out its final arc. I’m a strong believer in “less is more” and even took the show to task after it’s first season for it’s slow burn storytelling structure. What can I say? Sometimes I’m an impatient viewer. But here we are, with no time to waste and one last puzzle to solve and one more mission to complete, and I am 100% on board.

2.) Less Interpersonal Conflict Within the Team

I know, I know, drama makes for good TV, but I don’t like it when our favorite FBI agents fight with each other. And thankfully this season promises more teamwork and less drama amongst our core cast of characters. In an interview with TVLine.com, creator Martin Gero said, “…because there’s so much external conflict, it really has allowed us to eliminate the interpersonal conflict with the team, which, to be honest, is what our audience wants.” Yes! He’s right, that’s exactly what we want, thank you for listening!

3.) The Stakes Have Been Raised

In the same interview cited above, Gero also stated that, “…this is probably the highest-stakes season we’ve done” so I’m guessing we can all expect death, lots and lots of it. I’m certainly not rooting for anyone to bite the dust, well besides Madeline, but if a show’s going to feature as many terrorist threats and gunfights as this one does, there has to be consequences and casualties. And if the first episode of season five is any indication, they intend to follow through on that promise.

4.) Bill Nye Returns

Sometimes I roll my eyes at stunt casting, but you can’t tell me that casting Bill Nye the Science Guy as Patterson’s dad wasn’t a stroke of genius. His appearances are always a high point. And not just because he seems like such a cool person, or because we get more Patterson backstory, but because we get to see the often so serious Weller be an absolute fanboy. It’s only fitting that we get one more Bill Nye guest spot before the final curtain call.

5.) Patterson’s Name Will Be Revealed

Speaking of Patterson, yes the “powers that be” have promised that her first name will be revealed. Fairly early in the season too! Watch “We Didn’t Start the Fire” (5×2) all the way to the end for the long awaited reveal. Or just click here.

Catch the conclusion of Blindspot on NBC, Thursday nights at 9pm EST. And if you’re over 21, grab a cold one and play the Blindspot Drinking Game while you watch! Cheers!
