3 Must See Peacock Original Comedies

Peacock Original Comedy TV Series

Peacock Original Comedy TV Series

Despite what you may have heard, Peacock actually has more to watch than The Office. Over the last year or so the streaming service has slowly but surely built up a catalog of original comedy series worth watching. Here’s my favorite three of the bunch, so far.

Saved By The Bell

I loved the original Saved By The Bell series. It was a staple TV show throughout my childhood and even through my college days when reruns aired almost daily. So I have to admit I was initially skeptical about the reboot, but the trailer had me intrigued and then the series quickly won me over. Does this show work for new viewers? I honestly have no idea. Maybe watch a few minutes and see if it’s for you. The showrunner, Tracey Wigfield, was also a writer on 30 Rock so it has that kind of comedic sensibility if that appeals to you.

Saved By The Bell

Personally, I appreciate how the new Saved By The Bell reboot manages to both pay homage to the heart of the original series while also skewering the absurd and problematic parts of it as well. And seeing the OG cast is always a delight, but I’m digging the new Bayside High students and their storylines too. The show does lose a few points in my book for the awful theme song remix, but I am still looking forward to the second season, which drops on November 24, 2021.

Girls5eva

Manufactured pop groups of the 90s are hilarious relics of the past. Which is what makes Girls5eva‘s premise immediately funny – four members of a former girl group reunite to give their music dreams one more shot when one of their songs finds new life after being sampled by a popular rapper.

Girls5eva

It also has an incredibly talented cast working for it too. Staring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell, Girls5eva is a fun look back to all the terrible pop culture and fashion of the 90s, but also an amusing look into the lives of four complex women who are now trying to navigate the music industry twenty years later.

Tune in for the jokes and nostalgia and stay for the catchy original songs.

We Are Lady Parts

While you’re in the music spirit, I recommend taking your binge watch right on over to We Are Lady Parts. This series revolves around an all-female Muslim punk band just trying to make a name for themselves doing something they love all while navigating new and old friendships, romantic relationships, family pressure, and even stage-fright.

We Are Lady Parts

Like Girls5eva, the original music created for this show is on point and you’ll find yourself routinely chuckling and rocking out to songs like “Bashir With The Good Beard” and “Voldemort Under My Headscarf.” They also do a solid cover of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.”

At just six-episodes, We Are Lady Parts is a real quick watch, but a satisfying and enjoyable one at that.
