Other Noteworthy News

  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Marvel’s flagship show lives on! However, season six will be just 13 episodes and won’t air again until the summer of 2019. That’s after the release of the next Avengers movie. (Unsurprisingly, Marvel’s other ABC series Inhumans was axed.)
  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine – This beloved comedy was cancelled by FOX, then saved by NBC just 24 hours later. Nine-Nine!
  • Chicago Fire – This Dick Wolf series was renewed of course, however, Monica Raymund will not be returning. The show certainly isn’t lacking in characters, but I’ll still miss Gabby Dawson.
  • For the People – Renewed, probably because ABC is terrified to part ways with anything with the Shonda Rhimes name on it now that she’s left for Netflix. This tweet and its comment thread quite possibly sums up its renewal announcement best.
  • GothamRenewed for a fifth and final season.
  • iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – These CW shows were likewise renewed for a final season.
  • Lethal Weapon – This show was renewed but not without some behind the scenes drama. Lead man Clayne Crawford was fired because of his inappropriate on-set behavior. Seann William Scott was cast in his place, not to play the same character but to play the brother of Crawford’s character in case you were wondering how that was going to work.
  • RoseanneCancelled! You heard that right, and not because of ratings, because ABC was salivating over those numbers, but because of Roseanne Barr’s off-screen antics. Here’s what went down.
  • Scorpion – With Brooklyn Nine-Nine getting a second life over on NBC, Scorpion was my only real loss throughout the bloodbath of this cancellation season. The show was always comfort food for me so I’m not exactly sad it was cancelled, but I was bit surprised because it feels like most CBS procedurals run forever. Also, the show ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Oh well…
