For me, it isn’t a New York Comic Con without attending a Marvel panel and being sworn to secrecy by real life S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. This panel checked both boxes as the cast and creators of Marvel’s Runaways returned to the Theater at MSG for an exclusive screening of the season three premiere. Jeph Loeb, their fearless leader and Head of Marvel Television, was also on hand to moderate the Q&A portion of the panel.
As with any and all things Marvel-related I cannot divulge any real details from what I saw, but I can share this about the first episode of season three: it will debut on Hulu on December 13th, it picks up right where season two left off, and they hit the ground running. (Pun intended.)
Check out the trailer:
As for what I can share with you:
- Actress Elizabeth Hurley has been tapped for a major role this season, she’s set to play super villain Morgan le Fay.
- At the request of Jeph Loeb, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and cast all shared things they love about each other. All had wonderful things to say about one another.
- The Runaways comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan was in attendance and surprised the cast (and audience) by showing up in the line for the microphone during the fan Q&A.
- Speaking of which, more of the storylines from season three will touch on stories from the comics.
- The Cloak & Dagger / Runaways crossover had already been confirmed prior to NYCC, but they did elaborate that their presence on the show will be integral to the season.
- The cast also added that Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph were both lovely people and brought great energy to the set.
- Jeph Loeb teased, in the way that he always does, that maybe the Runaways cast could visit Cloak & Dagger. Of course, Jeph Loeb knows how to toy with an audience so all of this is 100% unconfirmed.
- He also alluded to the existence of some good bloopers to which someone in the audience yelled “release the blooper reel.” They did not have one with them, so here’s hoping one might see the light of day in the future.
- When asked about a favorite scene to shoot, two came up – one towards the end of the season where they were able to improv and one in the finale that apparently required some pretty cool technology to film.
- Another fan asked about pranks on set. Besides a “bread war” between Rhenzy Feliz and Gregg Sulkin, which consisted of them throwing bread at each other, Gregg Sulkin also tied Virginia Gardner’s shoelaces together while she was sleeping. Not only did she trip, but it also took someone from wardrobe and a PA to untie them.
The entire third season of Runaways will be available on Hulu on December 13th.
