Over the last several years I’ve highlighted a variety of pop culture and television podcasts, newly discovered TV and pop culture podcasts, and other entertainment-adjacent podcasts, but now I’m back with two more recommendations just in time for the new Fall TV broadcast season: Meet Us At Molly’s and Supergirl’s Attic.
Meet Us At Molly’s
If you’re a fan of any or all of NBC’s One Chicago shows – Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med – Meet Us At Molly’s is the podcast you need to be listening to on a weekly basis. The podcast hosts, Bryna and Gina, are devoted Chi-Hards who infuse each episode with knowledge, humor, and insight.
While clearly passionate about all three of the series, they still approach each episode with a critical eye and are not above calling out storylines or character beats that don’t quite work. Plus, their podcast interviews with cast members and people from the production teams, including Derek Haas the Co-Creator of Chicago Fire and developer of PD and Med, are a nice listening bonus to the weekly episode reviews.
And while I only found this podcast about a year ago (it’s been around a lot longer than that), it was immediately obvious that they’ve cultivated a lively and inclusive community of people who share a love for the One Chicago franchise.
They welcome feedback and regularly include comments, questions, and theories from their listeners on the podcast. They’re quite active on Twitter too, one or both of them is typically live tweeting during new episodes, which also keeps the discussion among fans going.
Must Listen: BONUS: Interview with Derek Haas* (May 20, 2019) & BONUS: Issues in Shipping with Tamar Barbash (May 13, 2019)
*Only give this one a listen if you are caught up on season seven of Chicago Fire.
Supergirl’s Attic
There’s no shortage of podcasts about The CW’s Supergirl. However, Supergirl’s Attic is the one I recommend subscribing to if you can’t get enough of a certain blonde Kryptonian, her adopted sister, their Space Dad, and the rest of their friend squad.
Hosts Cycles and Vv have a really fun rapport and bring a wide array of knowledge and expertise to the table (or microphone as it is in this case) when discussing the series. Their passion for Supergirl is evident, but there’s still real talk when it comes to what’s working and what’s not.
And while Supergirl’s Attic doesn’t date back to season one, I believe they launched in between season three and four, this podcast stands out from the rest for it’s in-depth look at Supergirl’s core characters, primary themes, and prominent show elements like family, disguises, music, and fandom.
Don’t worry, they also deep dive into new episodes. Supergirl’s Attic has you covered from “The American Alien” (4×01) onward.
Must Listen: Trust Me, I’m a Doctor (Episode 5) and Danvers Family Dynamics (Episode 17)
