On Tuesday June 27th 2017, Pretty Little Liars will finally bid adieu. And I say “finally” because I feel like I can’t remember my life before the show. What was once a fun guilty pleasure and then an all-out TV obsession has long since turned into an obligation of sorts – I just need to know how it ends. I’m a bitter-ender, damnit!
Desperate for answers and closure but also tired of the ridiculousness, I’m eager for the conclusion of this crazy pants TV show. Having invested so much time in watching the series and theorizing with fellow fans, I do have some hopes and wishes for the last, and 160th, episode of Pretty Little Liars:
- That there’s a lengthy previously on segment. Hey, a lot has happened in the last seven years.
- I hope the ending for these characters and reveal of A.D. makes sense. I’m not going to hold my breath, but I don’t want the conclusion to be out of left field either.
- Speaking of A.D., Wren’s got to have something to do with it right? Like everyone on this show has been guilty of something and he just keeps popping up. He’s like the human form of Chekhov’s gun.
- Jenna’s got to be involved too. I mean she has the most reason to want revenge. The liars still make fun of her for being blind, and they are the ones that blinded her.
- Can we put an end to surprise twin characters? I know like everyone on this show is sort of related and that twins obviously run in the family, but let’s keep the suspect pool to people we’ve already met.
- Here’s hoping Hanna and Caleb get a happy ending. I don’t ship many of the current pairings, but I do root for those two.
- Conversely, Veronica Hastings needs to actually divorce her husband. She can do so much better. The dude has fathered three children with three different women – one of which he thought was someone else.
- When all’s said and done, I hope Spencer, Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Alison learn to stop telling lies, or at the very least learn to tell their loved ones when they are being stalked or blackmailed. As the saying goes, the truth will set you free.
- That Rosewood collapses in on itself echoing the series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Sunnydale was swallowed up by the Hellmouth. I mean there could be a hellmouth under Rosewood. Nothing good ever happens there.
- No more spin offs, prequels, or sequels please. If the ending is truly satisfying, the story won’t call for more. (Also, see Ravenswood for why more isn’t always better.)
